Attachments Policy
The policy concerning attachments on the Mac-Mgrs list is simple:
- Do not attach files to either your questions or summaries.
- Do not send attached files when you respond to questioners.
- If the solution to the problem involves files then either include a URL to an FTP site, or arrange beforehand to send the file(s).
The goal of mac-mgrs is to teach people how to fish, not to actually feed them. With respect to that way of thinking, I think it's best that attachments not be sent to the list, but people be instructed how/where to get them.
There may be people checking their mail over a 2400 baud Newton connection and won't appreciate the attachment one bit.
There are well over 1000 people on the mac-mgrs list. If people start sending 100K attachments, that's 100MBs of traffic or so that the mail server has to deal with for *1* message. Not to mention the bounces (of which there are always some) which the list mom has to deal with.
